Fight your way to claim this valuable resource.

Let’s be real: acquiring an ornithopter to completely avoid the worm-infested sands of Dune: Awakening is the ultimate goal. It's fast, it's convenient, and it makes resource transportation a breeze. However, as expected, crafting one isn't cheap—it requires carbide scraps, which are notoriously difficult to obtain.

Below, I'll detail the few locations where carbide scraps can be found, as well as mention a vendor who sells them. Follow these steps, and you'll soon be crafting your very own ornithopter. Just brace yourself—there will be a fight.

You'll locate carbide scraps in containers at notable landmark locations such as the Hand of Khidir in Jabal Eifrit Al-janub and the outpost in Mysa Tarill. On your map, landmarks are marked with a mountain icon, though they're relatively few in number.

The nearest landmark when starting out on Arrakis is the Hand of Khidir, located in Jabal Eifrit Al-janub, just north of Vermillius Gap. As you progress further, Mysa Tarill also becomes accessible. This area is situated in the top-left corner of the map, past Western Vermillius Gap and right next to the Crossroads Tradepost—a handy fast-travel location.

Similar to outposts, these landmarks are exceptionally well-defended. Be sure to equip yourself with a powerful weapon, armor instead of a Stillsuit, and plenty of bandages. After you clear the area, carefully search every chest to find carbide scraps, along with the typical intel tucked away in outposts.

Not keen on battling it out? If you've got extra funds, carbide scraps can also be purchased for 3,500 solaris each from Zoe at the Crossroads tradepost in Mysa Tarill, or from the weapon merchants in Arrakeen and Harko Village. Given the steep price, though, I recommend attempting the Hand of Khidir area or Mysa Tarill first.

Crafting vehicles, especially coveted models like the Scout Ornithopter and Buggy, requires significant amounts of carbide scraps and diamondine dust. To illustrate, a basic, fully-built Scout Ornithopter demands 14 diamondine dust and seven carbide scraps. This means you'll likely need multiple trips to Mysa Tarill to gather enough resources. Carbide scraps are also essential in several gear recipes, including the Adept sword, as well as the Regis sword and rapier.
