Pay your taxes or they’ll literally send Sardaukar after you.

Arrakis might seem like a lawless desert where you can stake your claim anywhere you wish, but taxes are still mandatory in Dune: Awakening. Sure, it’s unfair—there aren’t even basic public services available on Arrakis, just bandits, wrecked ships, political tensions, and endless sands. However, if you fail to pay, the emperor will send his hounds after you.

The game provides only a vague explanation about how taxation works in Dune: Awakening, which isn't particularly helpful. As a result, you're likely to unintentionally skip your tax payments while figuring things out. But don't fret—I'll explain clearly how and when to pay your taxes to keep your base secure.

How to pay your taxes in Dune: Awakening

Taxes are paid by visiting an Imperial Tax Representative located in either Arrakeen or Harko Village.

You can reach these locations by paying 2,500 solaris for a taxi ride from any Tradepost, or by flying there yourself in your Ornithopter. Once you arrive, speak with the officer who will be clearly marked on your map, then select the option "I'd like to pay my taxes." Here, you can choose whether to pay your entire balance or just the taxes for a single sub-fief.

Paying your taxes is fast and straightforward, which is beneficial since regular payments are necessary to avoid severe penalties—the Sardaukar. However, keep in mind that constantly hiring a taxi to either faction's stronghold for every payment quickly becomes expensive. I strongly recommend acquiring your own Ornithopter and flying yourself to the outskirts of the map to access Arrakeen and Harko Village, saving solaris in the long run.

You'll have to pay taxes on all the sub-fiefs you control, meaning the cost can add up significantly if you're managing multiple bases. You can find out exactly how much you owe and when the payments are due by interacting with your sub-fief console—which, let's face it, you probably haven't checked since initially placing it.

Be prepared to discover that you owe the emperor quite a lot of coin, and that your payment is already overdue.
